New Trees for More Climate Justice

We want to promote and encourage sustainable behaviour, whether this be environmental protection or a healthy lifestyle, and we start this with the little ones. For five years, we have been supporting the ‘Plant-for-the-Planet’ child and youth initiative in its efforts and aim to plant 1,000 billion trees worldwide by 2020. Why is this so important to us? Well, climate change affects us all and must be resolutely opposed. Trees are very useful for storing CO₂, they absorb carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gases, and release valuable oxygen into the environment.

We unreservedly support the vision of a greener earth. That is why we contribute to the realisation and internationalisation of the project and have, so far, organised 11 ‘Zott Plant-for-the-Planet’ academies at our locations in Germany, Poland, the Czech Republic and Hungary. In these workshops, children train other children to become climate justice ambassadors who pass on the idea of tree-planting and the initiative’s vision to their families and friends. The academies are affiliated with tree-planting activities supported by foresters, in which the children of our employees and milk suppliers have placed about 3,800 new trees to date. This is a wonderful project which optimally combines social commitment with climate and environmental protection.

The following Zott academies have been held so far:

  • 2 x Mertingen (Germany)
  • 1 x Günzburg (Germany)
  • 3 x Opole (Poland)
  • 1 x Racibórz (Poland)
  • 1 x Prague (Czech Republic)
  • 1 x Torun (Poland)
  • 1 x Ostrava (Czech Republic)
  • 1 x Budapest (Hungary)

A total of 740 children have become ambassadors for climate justice at the Zott academies and have made positive contributions to climate protection by planting 3,840 trees.
