We want to make an effective contribution to a balanced environmental footprint
We see it as our duty to use our resources carefully and to use the energy we use for our products and their life cycles sensibly and moderately. Our audited energy management system focuses on reducing the use of fossil fuels, promoting heat recovery measures, but also continuously monitoring fresh water and waste water consumption and generating our own electricity and heat.

SBTi validates science based emission reduction targets
We have achieved a significant milestone on the path to greater climate protection. In the year 2023, we joined the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) and committed to set science based emission reduction targets. Its ambitious emission reduction targets have now officially been validated.
Our
measures

Since 2023, we have been generating a good 200 kilowatts of electricity per hour under ideal conditions with the photovoltaic systems on the roofs of our administration building in Mertingen and on the Genusswelt in Asbach-Bäumenheim. In 2024, we were able to significantly increase our capacity by installing and commissioning additional ground-mounted and rooftop systems at our sites in Mertingen, Günzburg and Opole.

Our guiding principles
Due to a lack of suitable alternatives, we currently rely primarily on plastic packaging for our sensitive and perishable products. In the interests of sustainability, however, we are constantly working to avoid and reduce this raw material wherever possible, to increase its recyclability and to use recyclates. On this basis, we are currently pursuing various projects that also help us to meet existing and future legal requirements.

Ultralight packaging
By using ultralight thermoforming film with more rigidity, both criteria are met and we achieve material savings of up to 10 percent. This reduces our use of plastic by around 62,000 kg per packaging per year (equivalent to around 197 tons of CO2e) and also leads to savings in disposal fees, as these are calculated by weight.
No plastic caps for drinks
Since 2024, we have dispensed with plastic lids for our Monte, Jogobella, Zott Protein and Zottis drinks. Instead, we seal our drinks with printed aluminum foil, which can be recycled via the yellow bag or the recycling garbage can.

Recyclable film
In 2024, we used recyclable film as packaging for the Monte Snack and various mozzarella products for the first time. As these tests were very positive, we have planned to switch these products to recyclable film permanently next year and to extend this to other products.
